Choosing Children: An Adoption Story

About This Blog

Like most parents-to-be we are equally scared and excited about what the arrival of children into our lives will mean for us as a family. And, like most parents-to-be we are looking to our community for shared experience and wisdom.

The idea behind this blog is to give us a place to articulate what we are feeling as we undertake the process of choosing to build a family through adoption. And, also to hopefully find and connect with other like-minded individuals who have similar experiences to share with us.

Who are we?

I am S. and he is C., we are a common-law couple with cats and dogs and we have lived in Toronto for 10 years.

Since we discussed children as part of our relationship almost seven years ago now, we knew that adoption is our first choice on how we want to build our family. To our knowlege we are not infertile, and as such this blog will not deal with issues of fertility.

We are also a heterosexual couple, although I identify as bisexual, so this is not a same-sex couple adoption. We fully support same-sex couple (and single) adoption, it’s just not our story to tell.

Where are you in the process?

We are finishing our “large kit” paper work and about to submit it.

What kind of adoption?

We have applied for domestic public adoption for siblings 5 to 10 years old.
